Memories of Chau

My deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Chau Thai

Even though I only met Chau a couple of times, I could tell what a special woman she was.

I had the privilege to spend time with Chau and my best friend Adina this past January. What a special day we had!

We shared a wonderful lunch together and I smile as I remember Chaus kindness and nurturing spirit. She wanted to make sure I was getting enough to eat and insisted on sharing her food with me. Spending time with Adina and Chau that day was the highlight of my trip.

Later that day Chau invited me to see her home. She was very proud of where she lived and the community and wanted to give me a tour of the garden and her home. Later that day as we drove around the city, she showed me the Vietnamese market and shops that she and Adina loved to visit.

As I started to leave, Chau invited me to celebrate tet, the Vietnamese New Year with them. I was so touched

that this lovely lady invited me back.

Adina later told me that her mom called me Charlie because she couldnt pronounce my name. Sowhenever I ended my phone calls to Adina, I always said: tell your mom Charlie said Hello.

I will cherish that day with Adina and her mother. I know Chaus legacy and generous spirit will live on through her children.

May God Bless and comfort the family during this time.

Charlotte Madison (Charlie)

Chau was My Friend

Chau was a member of a Sunday School class that I taught. She had recently come to America with her new husband, bringing her two boys. Later, she birthed Adina Rachel. Chau once told me that her family missed her "boo-coo." After her divorce, she said to me, "Mike, he have nothing. I have the children and our home." She worked faithfully for Johnny Cace's Steak and Seafood House until her retirement. Chau was always wearing her beautiful smile. I treasure the memories of her. Thanks for putting her obituary in the Longview-News Journal. Nell Collins
