Obituary of Urmila G Patel

Urmilaben G. Patel was born on July 31, 1948 and passed peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on April 12, 2019 at the age of 70. Urmila (well known as Umi) was known for her zeal for living life to the fullest. Urmilaben will be fondly remembered for her dedication to her faith and family, for her generosity, compassion, strength, and unparalleled cooking abilities. She gave her time and shared her wisdom with anyone who asked for it. Many people regarded her as an older sister or a surrogate mother. Our mother always said to her children and grandchildren, “Do the kind of work that makes other people happy when they see you.” She also reminded us that we are all given a finite number of breaths and that we should all strive to live our lives to the fullest, with all of our hearts, fulfilling as many dreams as we possibly can. She is the best example of servant leadership to those who knew her. She tirelessly gave back to her community and her faith. She never asked for anything in return, believing wholeheartedly in the power of karma. Urmilaben is survived by her husband, Govindji Jivanbhai Patel, her three children, Reshma Block (married to Ryan Block), Nilu Patel (married to Jack Canton), and Shyamal Patel (married to Anita Patel), also 7 grandchildren, Bela, Ayden, Jackson, Kiran, Lyam, Collin and Shayla; her mother, Sitaben Patel; brother, Mahendra Patel. The family of Urmilaben kindly ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made by check and mailed to the Sumi and Umi Family Fund Foundation located at 4041 MacArthur Blvd., Unit 510, Newport Beach, CA 92660.
