Obituary of Richard W. Plummer
Richard (Dick) Wesley Plummer, 94, born in Portland, ME on May 5, 1921. He passed away peacefully on April 25, 2016, surrounded by his family. Dick entered the Navy on Dec. 22, 1942 as a Seaman 1st class. During World War II, he was a signaler onboard the two ships, one being the USS Houston (CA 30) cruiser. He and his crew were engaged in the "Invasion of the Mariana and Palau Islands," "Battle of the Philippine Sea" & "Battle of Formosa" where the ship was torpedoed twice by the Japanese. After returning from the war, he moved to Bridgeport, CT and married his wife Veronica (Ronnie) of 25 years. In 1958 Dick, Ronnie and their two sons, Rick and Jerry moved from Milford, CT to travel cross-country over "Route 66" and settled in their home in Lynwood, CA. In 1974 Dick married his wife Inez of 40 years and moved to Huntington Beach CA. He retired in 1986 after 26 years with Kobe, Inc. where he was an inspector. In his retirement years, he loved cruising, dancing, listening to the 1940's big band & hawaiian music. He also loved watching his grandkids in their school and sports events. Dick was the son of the late Record and Alice H. Plummer and had five brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his two sons - Richard (Pam), Jerry (Debbie). One daughter, Jodi (Rick). His eight grandchildren - Stephen (Holly), Kevin (Tori), Bryan (Jacqueline), Kicsa (Scott), Sarah (Jallil), Sean (Mallorie), Rick & Stuart. His four great granddaughters - Delanie, Brooke, Elizabeth & Sierra and one great grandson - McKaine. A funeral service will be held at the Melrose Abbey Memorial Park, Anaheim, CA, Monday, May 2, 2016, at 2:00 pm followed by a graveside memorial service with full military honors.
