Born on January 17, 1919 in Jonesboro, NC to the late Andrew and Laura Groce, Watson passed away peacefully on October 12, 2015 in Alameda, CA with his family by his side. Watson is survived by his son Larry E. Groce and daughter-in-law Yvonne, step-son Steve and wife, Sue, several grandchildren and his former companion Vi Russell and her children Ed and Stan. He was preceded in death by his first wife Faye, his second wife Helen, his son Dennis, and his step-son Phil. Watson served in the Navy from 1937 to 1951. He was aboard the USS Princeton while serving in World War II and was also on the USS Saratoga. He worked at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station for 29 years and retired in 1980. Watson enjoyed working for the military and has fond memories of all his assignments. Watson enjoyed art and did it until a month before he passed on. He also liked to go to the shooting range with the specialty guns that he owned. He will be laid to rest on Monday, October 19th at Melrose Abbey Memorial Park in Anaheim, CA. Donations in Watson's memory may be made to the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, P. O. Box 742030 Los Angeles, CA 90074-2030.
