Obituary of John Newton

In loving memory of John, age 64, who passed away in Newport Beach, Calif. Born in Terre Haute, Ind., John was the beloved son of Oliver L. and Anna Mae (Rogers) Newton. Raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, John and his family moved to the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn during his college years. Having developed a great interest in American History and politics in high school, John continued those studies at American University in Washington D.C. He later completed his degree in history at Elmhurst College in Illinois. In the Fall of 2009 John and his father moved to the warmer climate of Orange County, California to be near John's sister Rehana Wahab (Christina Newton) and her family. John enjoyed the sunny skies and scenic ocean views, going to movies, restaurants, and reading. John will be loved and remembered for his gentleness, patience, and perseverance during his last 2 years with cancer, as well as other difficulties. John is survived by his sister Rehana Wahab (Christina Newton), brother-in-law Abdul Wahab, his nephew Abdul Rahman, and nieces Fatima, Aisha, and Asma, as well as 8 grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Services will be held at 11AM Saturday, June 27, at Banks & Brust Funeral Home, 400 North Court St., Sullivan, IN with Rev. Harold Hatfield. Burial will follow at Center Ridge Cemetery, Sullivan.
