Obituary of Dr. Van Quan Tran
Dr. Van Quan Tran was born on November 21, 1921 in Hanoi. As a boy, he excelled in mathematics and graduated at the top of his high school class. These early academic accomplishments gained the attention of the county governor, who requested to meet him personally. Later, he studied medicine at the University of Hanoi, specializing in radiology, and then practiced medicine at Hanoi Hospital for ten years. In 1954, Dr. Tran moved from Hanoi to Saigon. In 1956, he received a scholarship to study oncology at Gustave Roussy in France. He returned to Saigon the following year, where he practiced medicine for twenty years at the military hospital, while also working as an oncologist at the Cancer Institute of Saigon. During these years, Dr. Tran and his wife De Thi Do also raised three children: his son Hieu was born in Hanoi, and his two daughters Tue-Khanh and Kim-Thu were born in South Vietnam. In 1983, Dr. Tran and his wife moved to Paris. Two years later, they immigrated to California, where they lived with their son, his wife, and two grandchildren. Dr. Tran's family and friends remember him as soft-spoken, gracious, and never without a smile on his face. He enjoyed watching tennis tournaments, raising goldfish, and spending time with his loved ones. His warm, gentle, and appreciative spirit endeared him to all those around him.
