Obituary of Charles Henry Milner
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles, the only child of Charles and Ruth Milner, was born January 25, 1929 in Trafford, Pennsylvania. When he was nine months old, the family moved to Santa Ana, California, so he always considered himself a native. His friends called him Chuck. He joined the Navy and served on aircraft carriers during World War II. After an honorable discharge, Chuck continued his education at Santa Ana College, and took specialized courses all during his working career. While he was attending college, he met Mary Lee, whom he married a year later. They moved into a small home with a large yard in Santa Ana. A few years later their only son, Kim John Dale, was born. Later their first daughter, Dana Lynn was born there as well. At the time, Chuck was working at McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, so they moved to Garden Grove in 1953 where they lived to the present time. Their second daughter, Wendy Lee Ann, was born there. Chuck coached his son's Little League team for several years. After the children started school, Chuck was an involved parent. At one time he helped with the wiring of interclass communication and the PA system at Evans Elementary School. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Elks. He was an avid golfer. Through these activities, he developed strong friendships, many of which continue to this day. Chuck's work frequently took him out of the country, but as interesting as it was, he was always anxious and happy to get home. His heart was always at home with his family and friends. He took pride in his home and developed a love of gardening. He had a green thumb and everything grew for him, but orchids were his favorite. Chuck maintained his home and cars immaculately. As he grew older, age and various health issues slowed him down, but he still took pride in the accomplishments of every member of the family. He had 3 children, 3 grandchildren, and 6 great-grand children. Chuck and Mary Lee would have celebrated 63 years of marriage in June. Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2012 from 11am-11:30am in the Rose Chapel. Ceremonies will be held following visitation. Interment will immediately follow at Melrose Abbey Memorial Park. Services entrusted to Melrose Abbey Mortuary.
