I only just found out about Dru's death. We knew each other in high school and beyond, re-connected on FaceBook 3 or 4 years ago. She was a life-long friend, someone whose sense of humor and searching soul stayed with me always. I'm very sad and thinking of Dru right now.

We love you and will miss you. You were a great example of courage under difficult circumstances, a positive outlook on life even when it doesn't go the way we expect it to go, and a creative and giving person.

I met Dru one time, my first Sunday meeting with the knitting group. Dru was immediately so open, warm and such a loving person. She told me that she was very sick and then proceeded to teach me all about a fiber arts tool on line on the iPad. I could hardly believe this woman I was sitting next to was so seriously ill - she was so full of life. Some people we can know for a long time and still the impact on our own life is minimal. Dru was the opposite, a couple of hours with her and I think she will be with me my whole life. I am so, so sorry for your loss. My prayers go out to you all. Love, Morgan

my cousin Drucie was 4 years older than i and we rarely saw one another growing up. i met her again, as an adult, at my niece's wedding and learned then of the cancer she had battled. i saw her again after her mother died and we shared time together. such a radiant and beautiful soul! she was very kind to my mother [who suffers with alzheimers] and came to visit us in ventura...so selfless and genuine. Drucie, enjoy your reunion with Allah...i shall bask here in the glow of your incredible warmth, the energy of which is eternal.

I only briefly spoke to Dru at a yard sale in which she had donated the yarn to help pay for the group's online membership dues. As most knitters do, I ended up spending more than I had planned. I've used most of the yarn to make Chemo caps and beanies for preemies. Dru was a wonderful person. She touched so many peoples lives that she will never be forgotten.

A high school friend, always in my radar and recently re-connected via FB (messages). She was a special person, stood out to me as such in high school. I will cherish a scarf she gave me when we were 16.

Dru and I met because we are both knitters; but we approached it in very different ways. If a project isn't working out for me, I will analyze what I'd done, take some measurements, make some notes, then rip it out and knit it again. Dru on the other hand, would buy yarn with specific projects in mind, but then gradually steal balls from several projects and work them all together into a tangled tapestry of color and texture. And although I could spend hours untangling jumbled skeins, Dru would take a more pragmatic approach and dive in with a pair of scissors. To some people it might seem that she was a restless woman who would become disillusioned with her project and abandon it midway. But I saw in Dru someone who recognized new potential every day, and who had the vision for more than a lifetime's worth of accomplishments--but who would not unravel or throw away an old project just because she had moved on to something new. Dr taught me this: if you are not feeling enthusiasm for your current project, put it aside and start doing something that gets you excited again. Every life is short, and each one of us needs to make the most of the time we have. We owe it to Dru to start more projects.

It's with great sadness I say goodbye to such a creative spirit. I know she is in a better place now without pain. How lucky I feel to have called her my friend.
