Q: Describe where Avan worked and what they did
A: Avan and I met in Education Law graduate classes at National University in 2001. She and I wanted to ensure all students receive equitable access to an excellent education. She encouraged me to apply to Compton USD for a Middle School principal position. Upon being hired at Whaley MS, I was happily surprised to find that Avan was one of my Assistant Principals. We became excellent colleagues, and with her support, we built a team and culture of excellence and achievement.
She was an effective administrator, a great colleague, and a friend. She has left a legacy in Compton USD and in the lives of all the students, teachers, parents, and administrators she has influenced and served. She will be remembered and missed.
