Obituary of Michael John Fischer
Mike was born at Scripps Hospital in La Jolla, California on March 12, 1957 three minutes after his fraternal twin sister Lynne Michele. His parent’s Peter John and Faith Anne Fischer were “dumbstruck” when told by the obstetrician they were going to have twins. Their first born, Peter Michael, was only 2 years old at the time, so meant they’d have three children under 3 years old.
Mike was a good student and athlete, and he ran track and cross country for La Serna High School in Whittier. He subsequently attended Cal-Poly Pomona where he majored in Business Administration and graduated with Honors in 1982.
Mike’s first marriage was to Evelyn in 1982, but prior to that they had a baby girl and made the difficult decision to put her up for adoption. She was adopted by loving parents who lived in Houston, and they named her Colleen. Once Colleen came of age, she did a search for Mike and they connected for the first time in 2005, and it turned into a life-long relationship. Colleen lives in Spring, Texas and is married to David Ihrke and they have three sons, Hunter, Ian, and Zachary.
Mike married the love of his life, Debra Lynn Moug, in 1992, and held their wedding at the Crystal Cathedral. Their honeymoon was spent at the Honeymoon Suite at Disneyland Hotel. They have one son, Alex, born in 1995. He met Debbie through his job, and they soon started to date. Mike was a very devoted husband and father, and Debbie and Alex were the focus of his time and attention at home and were the most important people in his life. He loved cats, and his favorite was named Mocha, who they adopted when saw the feral mom carrying a kitten in the rain looking for shelter. Mike worked out almost daily at his home gym he created in his garage.
Mike started to work for Elmco Duddey (now Elmco Stewart) in 1996, where he worked 26 years until having to take medical leave in Jan, 2023. Elmco Stewart is a Distributor of residential and commercial plumbing and mechanical parts and services. Mike had several promotions over the years, until he was promoted to Vice President of Operations and Business Systems in 2016. Mike loved his work, and in his VP position had all AR and Operations personnel directly report to him, controlled the software infrastructure systems for all Elmco branches, and also oversaw the corporate financials.
Mike was referred by his family doctor to an oncologist in Sep, 2021 after experiencing some health issues. The diagnosis of pancreatic cancer occurred in Mar, 2022, but unfortunately as is common with this type of cancer he was already in Stage 4 and the cancer had spread to multiple other areas. Mike battled hard, never complained about his deteriorating health and continued to work through Dec, 2022, before finally having to take medical leave in Jan, 2023. Mike passed away peacefully in his sleep on 29-Mar in the company of his wife and son, which was as he wanted.
Mike was baptized in his early 20s, but hadn’t been active in his faith for the last 40 years until his battle with cancer. Mike recommitted his life to Jesus as his Lord and Savior last summer, and was at peace that he was going to Heaven.
