Obituary of Jack Decoven Jones
Please share a memory of Jack to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jack DeCoven Jones, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2017. He was born on July 9, 1928 to Perry and Bertha(Tipton) Jones on the family farm in Comanche, Oklahoma. He graduated from Comanche HS in May, 1946 and married his high school sweetheart, Mildred Purtell on December 15, 1946. The newlyweds relocated to Anaheim, CA in 1947 where they would spend the rest of their lives together.
Jack began working in the Orange County juice industry in his early 20’s, starting at the bottom doing whatever to learn the business. He retired from DiGiorgio Corp., Treesweet division, located in Santa Ana, as Plant Manager, in 1989.
Jack is predeceased by his parents, PD and Bertha Jones, sister LaVerne Brooks, granddaughter Melinda Van Wormer and great granddaughter in law Amanda Gordon.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mildred, daughters Linda Van Wormer(David) and
Jackie Holt(Randy). Granddaughters Melissa Gordon(Ken), Meridith and Caitlin Van Wormer and Hayley Winans(Kyle). Great grandsons Cheyne (Kristen) and Jeremy (Robyn) Gordon and Jack Winans. Great great grandchildren Kendall, Jonah and Kylie Gordon.
He also leaves his brother Pat Jones (Fran), sisters Pauline Benson (Dan) and Katheryn Owen, of Comanche Oklahoma, beloved niece Cheryl Koniuszy (Ted) of Troy, Illinois and many nieces and nephews.
Jack was a husband, father and Grandpa. He was our rock, shoulder to cry on, cheerleader, handyman on call, occasional gambler, Angels fan, prankster and button pusher. He loved a good argument. He was rowdy, but also quiet, steady and always available. We will always miss him but we will keep the memory of him and his unconditional love for us in our hearts forever.
