I first met ‘the’ Shobhana Jayant Mehta in 1990 when she worked for Zivetz, Schwartz & Saltsman, and I worked for Georgian Bay Productions. I would meet with her to drop off our tax package. One day, we had lunch and that was all it took to get hooked. It became our ritual. I can remember my first scolding from mother for being late, it was so sweet and filled with love, and I knew then, that she would forever my other mother. Now, 34 years later, my heart is broken, but surely to mend in time with such great memories of her.
I signed the guest book as “family” although most of you don’t know me. We weren’t related by blood or marriage, but united by that familiar connection that’s bonded with love. Our “Queen Bee” (as it was so perfectly expressed) greatly influenced my thoughts, my behavior, my life. My heart is happy to know she’s reunited with her loving husband. Thank you family, for sharing her with me. I am eternally grateful.
Love, Bonita Brisker

I have met “Aunty” as we fondly called her only a couple of times.. and that was sufficient to be enveloped in her warmth. The twinkle in her eyes as she engaged, her energy and smile - so infectious, it is aspirational to be like her - always asking- what she can do for you and not expecting what you could/would do for her. Nanda, you now have another guardian angel. Hugs and lotsa love.

Meeting Shobana aunty, fondly known as maa, was always a delight. Whether at Ahaana events or Nanda's Holiday party, she exuded warmth and affection, always remembering each of us. When Neepa mentioned that she still travels for work, I was in awe. Her dedication was truly inspiring and often a topic of admiration in my family.
Shobana aunty was a true force of nature, and Nanda, you embody that same spirit. I feel blessed to know both of you and am grateful for the brief conversation I had with her during a recent phone call with Nanda. Lots of love and strength to you Nanda, Susheel and your entire family.

William and my relationship with Shobhana was decades long as she did our accounting work personally and for our businesses. We first met her when she was with Lester Schwartz' firm and followed her when she branched out to go solo. We will miss her and her lovely smile.

Ma was always so kind to us all. Our favorite memories are of her smiling while cooking her delicious Indian food for us, and then taking the time to explain what each dish was and how it should be eaten. She was a very special person who raised a very special family that carries on her true spirit of kindness and generosity. Our hearts are broken that her physical body is no longer with you, but her light will continue to shine always. Rest in Peace, Ma.

Dearest Shobhana Emo (Auntie),
Your warmth and kindness touched my heart deeply during the brief moments I shared with you.
Your welcoming smile and open arms each time I saw you made every moment memorable. Your spirit blended resilience and grace, evident in everything you did, from your passionate endeavors to the love poured into your delicious home-cooked meals. I am so glad I got a chance to taste it!
You had a remarkable way of making a profound impact quickly, creating a sense of closeness and familiarity that usually takes years to develop. Your strong bond with your family, especially with Nanda, reminded me so much of my bond with my mom.
Although I only met you three times, the imprint you left is timeless. I am grateful to have known you and carry your memory with gratitude and affection.
Love,
Cathlyn Choi

Dearest Nanda,
I am so sorry for your loss.
I will miss getting updates about your Mum. It used to be so reassuring to hear that she was working hard and was still the reigning matriarch, in her own quiet way. We have been lucky to learn many life’s lessons from her at important stages of our lives.
I loved seeing your parents when they visited at school. They made a handsome and loving couple. Aunty Shobhana was kind and gentle and oh so elegant! I’d like to think they are both reunited Nanda, and I’m sure they are watching over you and Raja. May you find solace in their memory.
I was lucky to see her again as a grown up and am proud that she met Peter and Rohan and stayed with us. She was easy to please and blended right into our Aussie way of life. Ever adaptable and super smart. She was just so special.
Farewell Aunty Shobhana, May you rest in pease.
Love Sunita

You were such a lovely human being, aunty, and a mother to us all. The love that Nanda had for you was the purest form of love I have witnessed, and that speaks so much about you and the emotions you evoked in so many people. We will miss your strong, loving, beautiful presence, but we know that you will be watching over all of us. And rest assured, we will always be here for your family. I am so lucky to have known you. ❤️

In 2003, I was told to meet a very important person in the Mehta's family. I was young and timid not knowing if I could win your heart and be accepted as a daughter-in-law. I will always remember Mummyji as the first woman from the Mehta's to embrace, welcome and accept me for who I am.
Unbiased, welcoming, hardworking, courageous woman and independant personality of Mummyji will always keep inspiring me. I am lucky to have met you and spent good time with you. Mummyji you will be missed very much. May your soul rest in peace forever, Amen.

I had a privilege and joy to have met Shobhana Aunty at Ahaana festival 2024 - for the first time & unfortunately last time. We exchanged warm ‘Kem cho’ greetings at first and later shared pure vegetarian dishes at BJs in Irvine. I was struck by her quiet strength and her love for family - small acts like offering her shawl for Nandaben and bringing chips/snacks for grandson Pratik. My prayers for peace to her soul and strength to Nandaben/Mehta family. Jai shri Krishna.

Being the ideal embodiment of a mother, friend, mentor and a remarkable woman with a tireless, positive and supportive attitude does not come easy. There was a large role played by god, who gave us Masi 80 years and wanted her daughter back in the universe. The 82 years included a score of 10/10 for her personal & professional life throughout her journey of life. As I like to say in the journey of life, time is the real journey and what you do in this time is what we all remember. To my Masi, we all love you, your kids are successful but we will always miss you. May the Force be with you and your family, always. Jai Sri Krishna masi.

Shobhana Aunty, whose warmth exudes an irresistible invitation - you're caught in her embrace before you know it. Paradoxically gentle yet fiercely protective like a mother lioness; she was more than just Nanda's mom. Her boundless kindness beautifully collided with her courageous spirit; generously shaping the lives of many, mine included! As my accounting mentor and second mom, she had enough love to scold me for petty errors while ensuring stress never touched my forehead. Farewell Ma, your absence will leave an irreplaceable void.
